More Patriotic Fun!

Happy fourth of July Everyone!!

Today over at the The Rubber Cafe' blog, I'm sharing a couple more cards with a Patriotic feel!
First I've made a card playing around with the star from Ornamental Holiday stamps and Bo Bunny's Red, White and Blue paper pads.

I stamped a '4' on a flag pennant and accented with a silver sequence star.

My First Swing card! I really love these, and are really adicting! I've seen many tutorials but Beate John's is the easiest to follow here it's also a video so you can play it back as you're making your cuts and folds.
For this one I created my card with a rectangle for my swing shape - it worked perfectly with the Framed Flag stamped image.

Swing it open and reveal the other side and a sentiment!
There's no wrong side to this kind of card! All of my sentiments came from the Remember the Moments set.

Again featuring my Bo Bunny 6 x 6 pad, this 'Swing' card was really fun and simple to make and once you've mastered one, I know you'll want to make another and another...!
Thanks for stopping by have a safe and happy 4th of July!

The Rubber Cafe' - Celebrate Napkins Tutorial and Shaker card

Hi Everyone!

Today - I'm going to share with you a technique that Tim Holtz did a few years back and just shared again on his blog this past week.  I had to give it a try with my own Framed Flag stamp from The Rubber Cafe' - so I've stamped some napkins and a cute shaker card both using this technique!

You can find Tim's tutorial here.   He's had some fun Patriotic ideas this past week, I've wanted to try them all!

First I'll show you how I did my napkins and more specifically how you can create your own custom stamp pad!  - I've only tried this with outline type stamps but I'm sure solid stamps will work just as well just be sure to have enough ink on your custom pad.

Let's get started...
Here's my napkins, I have to say this idea is simple but it does take some practice, to get just the right amount of ink on your stamp.

Here's a look at my supplies - my napkins and my felt piece stamped and ready to start inking.

In Tim's Tutorial, he's using the Cut-away felt, I didn't have any but I was able to make my own using a couple layers of regular felt that I stapled together.  I've stamped my image first with Memento ink, Archival ink works well for this part also.

Next I pulled together my re-inkers.  You don't want distress ink for this- but works best with a regular dye ink, like Archival or in my case I used Stampin'Up! Classic re-inkers, in Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red and outlined it in Classic Black.  Tim Suggests doing the Black ink last so I worked on my image from the inside out, and it worked pretty well.  Red, Blue and finally the black.

Using your re-inkers like a pen just start filling in on the lines with the colors you want the finished image to be.  You don't have to be perfect with this but I was careful to not mix my colors.  This whole process ultimately provides you with a custom stamp pad to apply to your stamp, using multiple colors all in one stamped motion!  Pretty clever huh?

Here's another closer look at my finished custom stamp pad-

Now I'm ready to take my stamp and place it onto my custom stamp-pad.

Be careful not to use too much pressure, or you'll get too much ink on your stamp.  I definitely suggest stamping off on a piece of paper first to practice!  Here's my first stamp-off.  Not too bad...

I corrected the left side where it was skipping a bit on the border by getting a larger block - the one pictured above just fit my stamp and on that side I was just a bit off the edge, so I wasn't getting the right pressure applied.

Finally I started stamping my napkins.  I used 2 sizes, a small white square napkin as well as long oblong dinner size napkin.   I found these in my grocery aisle.

I'm happy with how they turned out- I did find you can repeat stamp from the same prepared custom stamp pad quite a few times before having to re-ink it.  I think I re-inked too early - and had a mess in the upper RH corner where the black bled into my blue stars - so I cleaned my stamp up and re-applied more Baja Blue.  And these seemed to come out much better.

I had test-stamped another image on cardstock, before I stamped my napkins that turned out great so decided to create this simple shaker card, another technique I've been wanting to try out- using Washi tape.  I unfortnuately can't recall where I saw this idea first - I think it was Splitcoast but can't find the link right now.

To make the shaker portion, I layered some clear acetate over my stamped Framed Flag image, and enclosed 3 sides with washi tape. This has a script pattern on it- that I thought worked really well with my flag. I filled the pocket with my stars and sequins, and than closed it up with washi tape just like I did on the other 3 sides.

Here's a closeup of the corner of the shaker-

A simple technique to create a Shaker card w/o the bulk - so perfect for mailing!

My stars at the bottom I made with MS molds, and white modeling clay that I colored with my Baja Breeze dye re-inker.  I finished them off with a matte glaz-on by Staz-on, and adhered them to my card with my Scrap Happy Glue.  These were really fun, and air dry overnight so your kids can get into the act on these too!  Once I got going - I was making all kinds of embellishments and small frames!  I loved how coloring the white modeling clay gives you so much more flexibility- and I liked them better than painting them afterwards.

Heres'a side view of my shaker card.

I think this turned out to be a 4 1/2" square card.   To finish it off I threaded three rounds of bakers twine, at the top, this was in the dollar bin at Target, it had a little more wt to it than my other so I really liked how it looks.  On the outside top layer of my card, I punched 1/2 circles or divets with the smaller punch on my Crop-o'Dile so that the threads would catch and stay in place.  On the fold side I just punched 1/2 a punch once and just kept threading my string through the same hole, tieing it off on that side as well.

That's it for today!  I hope you'll try these out!  I know I'll be making more custom pads in the future, it's a great way to apply multiple color inks at one time.

Have a safe and happy 4th!

Graduation Fancy fold Gift Cards- The Rubber Cafe'

Hi Everyone! Hard to believe but it's that time of year again, where school is out and Graduations for all ages are here. So I found I had to get busy and come up with some creative ways to share gift cards. So I got out my Score-Pal, and stamps and got busy!

I came up with 3 cards, to share with you, all are fun folds, can hold a gift card, can be made from a 1/2 sheet of 8 1/2 x by 11 piece of cardstock, and finally all feature my "Anything in Possible" stamp, from The Rubber Cafe',

This first card, is a fun fold I did for a card swap a couple of years ago, and going through my card samples found it and thought it would be a perfect gift card for a graduate!

I love how the square element in each can be easily made into that 4 corner bord cap complete with tassel!

Here's a side view to see the way it's folder, and also you can see the place for a gift card peaking out on the RH end.

Here is open. All 3 of these cards, when closed will fit in a regular A2 size envelope. So easy for mailing too!

The second card was a new twist on the fold I used for the my first card. Simple embellishments and the same wonderful "If you Believe...." phrase, make this one also pretty easy to complete. I found this tutorial here -there are several variations out there mine seemed closest to this one in measurements and finished size.

You can see here with it open there's lot of room for a sentiment, and a pocket for a gift card or cash!

The last card is an easy fold with punch outs, I used that area, to focus my Graduation cap, and other embellishments mounted on a similar square, help keep my card closed.

There's room for another gift card inside as well as phrase and any other embellishments you choose. You can see the details of making this here created by France Martin.

The colors you choose - of course, can be based on your Grad's school colors, or keep it in basic black, if you need to make several. I promise you'll find these quite quick and easy to make, so get out your Score Pals, and give one or all 3 of them a try!

Thanks for stopping by... and have a great week!

It's Twin Diaper Cakes!

Hi!  I'm back today to share some more 'sweetness' with you!   This set was for some darling newborn twins!  Fraternal Twins, a boy and a girl a perfect set!

This time I purchased 2 packs of Newborn size diapers that came in quantities of 36 so I used one pack per cake.   I chose Teddy Bears as the theme, this time and used grass, trees and sunshine to add to the fun!

Here's a look at the Lily's Top and middle and bottom tier.

Kites and Pinwheels surround the center - hearts and stars for added elements.

The 'L's are for Lily and Lucius!
Banners declaring It's a Girl!, It's a Boy! and It's Twins! finish them off.

New Baby Diaper Cakes!

Wow!  I can't believe where the time has gone since I've last posted...  all I can say is it's been a tremendously busy time at work, and creative time and energy has not been there for me lately.

Today I want to share one of the fun Diaper cakes I made recently for some sweet new babies.  That's right babies!!  In my office within a week of each other two guys had new babies!  The first one was a set of twins!  And the second one the stork delivered a sweet new baby girl.

Here's a view of the Baby Girl cake I  made for sweet little Kari Lynn!

I saw the instructions for a diaper cake from a free download with Echo Park. I've never made these before so it was helpful to see how to get started!

They used a core of foam in the center of the bottome layer, but I chose to make the entire bottom and middle tier all with diapers, and the top layer was a round container of Q-tips!  This uses size 1 - a pack of 50 diapers.  These diapers go up to 14 pounds, they recommend you not use too small as babies grow fast.  So these should be OK for awhile!
Each diaper was rolled and wrapped with small hair rubber bands, and than I used twine to tie the layers together before wrapping my cardstock bands around each layer.

Here's a closer look...

The decorating was so fun!  I got my Cameo Silhouette out and cut everything you see!  Flowers flowers and more flowers!  A 'K' for the top and a flag claiming "It's a Girl!" finishes the top.

The best part I was able to dig into my stash and use that coveted Basic Grey baby paper line that I've had for so long just waiting for the right project!  I also used other solid Stampin'UP! cardstock so all I have was the cost of the diapers, and Q-tips!  This is such a fun gift, and even the father's were pleased!

Tomorrow I'll post the sweet pair I made for the twins...  don't want to share too much sweetness in one post!

Thanks for stopping by....
