12 Tags of 2012 - April

Yeah!  I'm finally getting my April Tag (ATC card) for Tim's 12 Tags of 2012!  I've had most of it ready for awhile, but just needed to do some finishing touches and get the pics taken.

I am soooo into shaped cards, and tags these days.  So everything I used here is from Spellbinders' Bird Sanctuary set and the Orchard Harvest tags set I purchased from The Rubber Cafe'.  I used the embossing of the Spellbinder larger die from the Orchard Harvest set to reflect that element from Tim's sample, and I used the bird diecut from the Bird Sanctuary set to get the details of the bird, and I guess where the similarities end.

So just a reminder here's Tim's tag ...

I've cut my tag, from a base card stock and layered printed paper from Melissa Frances.  I inked the edges, popped the edge and bird up a bit, and used a Cream Pearl Pen to accent the impressions of the die cut around the frame.
The Rolled flowers are ribbon and burlap ribbon I rolled glued with Scrap Happy Glue and attached with leaves from the Orchard Harvest set.  For fun I added some sweet mushrooms, to give it a shot of color!

I picked up the mushrooms in a recent trip to one of my favorites places in San Diego, it's called Paper Tales you can see their website here, while it's obvious they focus on Scrapbook and Cardmaking supplies... what I love is the Vintage and Shabby Chic direction that the whole store exudes everywhere you look! If you're ever in this area, you have to stop in! In the meantime, take a gander through her website Michelle does a great job of displaying their product offerings.
That's it! for now, thanks for stopping by-
In addition to making this for Tim's 12 tags challenge, I made this with these other challenges in mind as well! :

Just my Type Candi's Style!

Happy Saturday!
I'm excited today, not only is the weekend here, but I get to spend the day creating and crafting with a some good friends at a 12 hr crop! Sometimes I think we do more socializing than creating but it's all good fun just the same.

When I was thinking about what to share with you this week, I decided to follow Kristine's lead from Friday's The Rubber Cafe'  Got Candi? blast as it seemed the perfect intro to my project.
I am also using my favorite fold the Easel card and I've included a tutorial this time so you can try one out for yourself!
Today I'm using another favorite stampset of mine 'Just My Type' from The Rubber Cafe.

And the perfect Candi to go with this set is the Newspaper Candi. They come packaged in black and white, and the black ones I fournd were perfect for my card. The really cool thing about the white ones, is you can color them any color that you like.
I attached them using the special Candi adhesive squares, and they situate perfectly inside the curve, keeping them close to surface to mimic the finished look of a brad.

Because Candi's are made of a pressed paper like chipboard material, it makes it very easy to alter these any color you wish. Use water base Distress inks, markers, or pencils and match your project perfectly. My good friend Tanya, was with me when I was playing with these so she used them to finish a couple of cards she was working on.  One card she used the black as is, the other she distressed with Ranger's Vintage photo distress ink to match the background of her main image giving it a whole different effect. She was kind enough to let me share it with you, so here's a close-up view...

And here's a full front view of her finished card.

To finish up my easel card I diecut the edge of my paper from My Minds Eye with Spellbinder's Office Supplies set, torn edge die, which really made my paper background look authentic!
Here's a close up - of that darling Typewriter, I stamped one of the phrases that came with the stamp on the paper of the typewriter, 'you are just my type', and used another phrase from the set down below.
The typewriter was colored with copics, and I used my Copic Spica glitter pen in silver to accent some of the metal pieces.

I used the easel card fold again to finish my card. I just love how easy this is and yet makes such a special finish to any card, making it ready to display right out of the envelope! I've used his card a lot and shared it already a few times with you but this time I'm going to tell you how to make an easel card of your own.
I usually make mine 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" which means you can easily use an 8 1/2 x11" pc of cardstock. And that's what I did for this card as well.

I started by cutting my base card 4 1/4" x 8 1/2" and with my Score Pal made 2 score lines, the first one at 4 1/4" mark and than again at the 6 3/8", you'll crease those folds back and forth in accordian style(this is what forms the easel). I than cut another pc of card stock that is 4 1/4" square, which is adhered to the small 2 1/8" portion left. Are you lost yet??
Well a picture is worth a thousand words, however some technical difficulties got in the way of sharing the pics I had planned to share with you to guide you through this tutorial, so I went back to the source where I first learned how to do this fun card fold. Beate Johns on Splitcoasters has a great tutorial and has since added a video here. Beate does amazing work along with great tutorials so I'm leaving you in good hands!

The other thing I love about this card is that you are not limited to size, and /or shape. As you saw in my card I shared during the Blog hop last week hosted by The Rubber Cafe' and Really Reasonable Ribbon.

Well that's it, thank you for hanging in there with me.
Enjoy your weekend and take some time to try out an easel card of your own!!

Really Reasonable Ribbon and The Rubber Cafe' Blog Hop!

Welcome and thanks for joining us in the Really Reasonable Ribbon and The Rubber Cafe' blog hop!

If you're following along, in order you probably got here through Dawn's blog.  If you get lost along the way, the Blog Hop started at The Rubber Cafe' Blog here

For the Blog hop today, I am using one of my favorite Stamps set "Through the Window" from the The Rubber Cafe'.

I wanted to showcase my ribbon wreathe I wove using Satin Grossgrain edge ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  I love this ribbon as it's beautiful from either side.  This particular ribbon is 7/8 " inch wide, so as I was weaving I folded it in half to make my wreathe.  I really love the warm color of this and how it finishes my card beautifully.

To pull my card together I used the Easel card and on the base, I cut and embossed my ribbon banner label using Spellbinder's Ribbon Banners die also available in the The Rubber Cafe' store.  I stamped part of my phrase using The Rubber Cafe's "Sweet" stampset, and wrote the word 'Home' on each of my houses.  These are acrylic, which I backed with paper and used Glossy Accents to adhere to the acrylic frame.  Here's a side view of my card so you can see the easel fold.

That's it for me, and thanks for hopping by, head on over next and see what my BFF Gloria, has in store for you - she's super talented so get ready to be amazed!.

Vintage Silhouette - Home Sweet Home

Wow it's already Thursday!  Where did this week go?

One huge accomplishment I finally my taxes so another Tax season has come and gone, well almost gone but the 17th is just around the corner so I did cut it a bit close this year.
I admit I procrasinated a bit on my taxes this year, but it was a strange year of employment (and some 'un'employment) for me, and in the end I had 4 W2's to enter!  Yes, I said FOUR!  But I'm happy to report, that just a couple of weeks ago, I was hired as permanent employee once again.  I've been contracting since last summer, and athough at least I was working, I like being apart of team as a regular employee again, including the benefits, paid time off and all the other perks!  The added bonus for me also is my new company is only 2.2 miles from my home!  And as gas prices are on the rise, that is also a terrific perk.
Speaking of Home, let me get to the fun project I want to share today.  It's my 3d Vintage House and not only could I decorate the outside,(I love the lampost!) but also the inside, as this one opens allowing you to weld your interior design skills too.

I used the Sweet Chips Chipboard house from Crafty Secrets
This is is all cut and ready for you to cover and make your own.

Here's another view form the side- I love all the extra details and pieces that were provided. I used all of my own paper, and lace to insert for a peek of curtain coming out of the windows and doors.  I was able to pick out prints of interest for the windows from vintage prints I had.

....and yet another side window and a peek through the front door.  Check out the fence!  I punched it out with Martha Stewart's border fence punch.

OK, remember I said I got to do the interior as well?  Nothing works better than using my Silhouette to diecut all the interiors.  It was so fun, as these were teeny tiny and yet the details were still cut with great precision.

So the as the roof comes off it opens to reveal the entire inside!

 here are some inside shots

In this one take a look at the mirror- I put a tiny picture of my Mom as a little girl to look like she is reflected in the mirror.

I love the dress form and fancy bird cage holding some flowers while the bird flies free!

Well that's it for me today- be sure to stop by as I will be participating with the rest of the DT at the Rubber Cafe'and Really Reasonable Ribbon in a blog hop!  It starts on Friday the 13th and runs for the week, so mark your calendars and meet me here, at The Rubber Cafe' blog where it all begins!

Happy Easter!

It's the end of the week and tomorrow is Easter Sunday! Which means I still have time to share one more Easter treat with you.

I created a double fold card that reminds me much of the old photo display holders. So it seemed fitting to team this up with some vintage graphics. Here is the inside view first!

The stamps I used for this project was the Small Trailing Butterflies from The Rubber Cafe.
You'll find them fluttering everywhere! I have some on the inside.... and when you close and take a look at the front, I have them all over the front of my project too!. These are so pretty and fun, and we have them in a Large size as well.
I stamped some of these directly on the project while others were stamped colored and cut out so I could pop them up for more dimension. I used Watercolor paper 110 lb wt. throughout this project so it can stand up and be displayed when it's open. The polka dot print is a 6x6 pack from Melissa Frances.
I paper pierced the edges to add more definition by stitching it with my machine minus the thread! This is a great way to get evenly spaced piercing that is sometimes challenging by hand.

Here's another closeup of the inside.

I wrapped ribbon around to close it and added a silver bunny charm from my stash! For the finishing touch I added some pearl accents. This could be a great idea for sending a special photo or even maybe a gift card. Remember not all your cards have to be square or rectangular.

That's it for now, enjoy your weekend!

Challenges:
Squirrel and the Fox-  "Things with Wings"
Paper Play Challenges- Week 15 "Shaped Card"

Supplies:

Ink: Ranger Distress Ink - Pumic Stone. Memento Cocoa, Copic markers
Paper: Attic Treasures 6x6 Pad from Melissa Frances, 110 lb wt Watercolor Paper
Embellishments: Vintage graphics from Crafty Secrets, Pearl accents, Ribbon, Bunny charm
Adhesives: The Rubber Cafe' - Scrap Happy Glue, and dimensional pop-dots.
Dies: Tim Holtz Vintage Cabinet Card mover shaper die with the Mini Cabinet die to cut the inside window, by Sizzix.

Added update:  I've had several ask from my post today on the The Rubber Cafe Blog how I got the shape of my card, and I omitted mentioning that.  I've used a Sizzix die from Tim Holtz' collection called Vintage Cabinet Card, it's a mover and shaper steal die which means you can insert other smaller dies inside. Which I did for the inside by using the Smaller Cabinet card die.
To cut my card, I folded the sides in first so they were just inside the cut edge of the dies, and than ran it through my diecut machine to cut the upper and lower edges.
Thanks for stopping by! ~Karen
